Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need A Doctor’s Referral?

Private patients do not need a doctor’s referral to attend for physiotherapy treatment.  However, if you have a Workcover or a Compulsory Third Party claim you will need a referral from a medical practitioner and insurance company approval to commence treatment.  Gerard is an accredited practitioner under the NSW Workcover Scheme.

Can I Claim For Physiotherapy From My Private Health Fund?

Yes.  If your level of coverage includes extras you can claim and receive a rebate for part or, in some instances, all of our fee.

Lidcombe Physiotherapy has HICAPS which means you can claim your rebate at the time of treatment, as long as you remember to bring your private health fund card to the appointment.  You can then pay for any gap using EFTPOS, credit card or cash.  We accept all credit cards including AMEX, with no surcharge payable.

Can I Claim For Physiotherapy From Medicare?

In certain circumstances, patients may be eligible for up to 5 physiotherapy sessions per calendar year under the Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Programme.  You will need to discuss this with your General Practitioner to determine whether you qualify.  If so, please bring a specific EPC referral from your doctor together with your Medicare card. No gap payment is charged.

Is There A Waiting List?

No.  An appointment can usually be made within 24-48 hours of calling, however for urgent treatment same day appointments are available.

What Should I Wear?

Comfortable clothing is most appropriate.  If you have a leg injury, shorts are provided or you can bring your own if you prefer.  Otherwise gowns and towels are provided for modesty.

How Long Are Treatment Sessions And How Much Is The Charge?

  • Initial consultation and treatment: 45-60 minutes - $88.00
  • Follow-up (standard) consultation and treatment: 30-45 minutes - $78.00

Many of our patients comment on the exceptional value for the quality and standard of our service.

Do You Usually Run On Time?

Yes.  At Lidcombe Physiotherapy we appreciate your time is valuable so we are rarely, if ever, running behind.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

This will depend on the nature of your injury or condition.  However, many of the sprains, strains and muscles spasm conditions we see recover within 1 to 3 treatments, and home exercises and self-management techniques are provided to hasten recovery.

What Is ‘Hands-On’ Treatment?  I Have A Neck Problem.  Would Hands-On Treatment Help?

At Lidcombe Physiotherapy we provide ‘hands-on’ treatment for all patients.  This includes techniques such as joint mobilisation, manual traction, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release.  The purpose of ‘hands-on’ treatment is to release the structures restricting your movement and contributing to pain.  Hands-on treatment for neck problems can be particularly effective.  A study* on neck pain sufferers, published in 2002, demonstrated that hands-on treatment was very beneficial for almost 70% of patients in the study.  It was twice as effective as conventional treatments such as analgesics and exercises.
